Quick Start¶
Place your first objects with Grabbit in about a minute. No components, no setup, just select and drag.
Prerequisites: Grabbit installed and a scene with a floor (a flattened cube or a plane) and a few objects to move (a handful of cubes or props).
1. Activate Grabbit¶
In the Scene View toolbar, open the tool dropdown and choose Grabbit 2. The Grabbit overlay appears in the Scene View, showing a row of mode buttons: Select · Create · Place · Arrange · Scatter.
You can also press the activation shortcut for a mode directly, for example O jumps straight into Place. (Shortcuts are listed in The Five Modes and are remappable under Edit > Shortcuts.)
2. Drop an object onto the floor¶
- Make sure Place is the active mode (it's the default).
- Select one of your objects in the Scene or Hierarchy.
- Grab the position handle at the object and drag it over the floor.
The object collides with the floor and rests on it instead of sinking in. Drag it into another object and the two push apart rather than overlapping.
3. Make a quick pile¶
- Select several objects at once.
- Make sure Place is active with the Move operation (the default).
- Hold Space to run the simulation; the objects fall under gravity and stack up. Release Space to freeze.
Place starts frozen, so nothing moves until you hold Space. To spread the group out before it drops, switch to the Box operation, drag a box face to space them apart, then hold Space to let them settle.
4. Scatter them¶
- Keep the objects selected and click Scatter in the overlay.
- Set the Operation dropdown to Explode.
- Press Space; the objects push apart from the blast sphere. Press again to push them further.
Try Randomize to scatter them to random spots inside a draggable box, or Cramp to pull them back together.
5. Finish up¶
When you're happy with the layout, switch to a different tool in the Scene View toolbar (or click Exit in the overlay). Your objects keep their final transforms; Grabbit leaves nothing behind.
